What Makes Commonwealth Coffee Special?
At Commonwealth, coffee isn’t just a drink—it’s a craft. We’ve been roasting our own coffee beans in-house since 2010, refining our process to bring out the best in every bean.
From El Salvador to Ethiopia we source the highest-quality green coffee beans from around the world, selecting them based on peak growing seasons for optimal flavor. Every bean is roasted to a perfect medium roast, designed to highlight the unique nuances of each origin and blend.
Our expert baristas are dedicated to maintaining the integrity of every brew, ensuring that each cup meets the highest standards. We also take pride in our ingredients, using only the best locally sourced milk and crafting all of our house-made syrups with premium ingredients—no shortcuts, just exceptional quality.

Does Commonwealth Use Seed Oils?
We’ve worked tirelessly over the years to eliminate seed oils from our menu—no small feat, considering they’re in almost everything on the market. While we hope to see industry-wide changes, we’re proud to say we’re 99% seed oil-free at Commonwealth.
The only exceptions? Oat milk and tortillas, but that is up to you. Otherwise, we exclusively cook with avocado oil and butter and use extra virgin olive oil in all of our dressings.
Transparency matters to us, and we remain committed to offering the highest-quality ingredients possible.
How Does Ordering Work at Commonwealth?
At Commonwealth, we offer a streamlined counter-service experience designed for efficiency and ease. The line may often look long but we promise you it moves along and is designed to save you wasted time in your dining experience.
When you arrive, you’ll see our center coffee bar, which divides our service areas:
Dine-In Guests – Head to the right
Takeaway Orders – Head to the left
For dine-in service, please place your order at the register before selecting a table. You’ll receive a table number to ensure smooth service. During peak hours, a host will be available to assist with seating after you order. If all tables are occupied, a short wait may be required, regardless of party size—our service format keeps things moving efficiently!
Once seated, our expediting team will deliver your drinks, food, and table essentials and ensure your table is cleared when you’re finished.

Does Commonwealth Accept Reservations?
At Commonwealth, we operate on a first-come, first-served basis to ensure the best experience for all our guests. While we do not take reservations, we welcome larger groups of 10 or more to call ahead so our team can prepare accordingly. We can comfortably accommodate tables of up to 14 guests and will do our best to make your gathering seamless and enjoyable.

Looking for the perfect venue for your private event? Commonwealth transforms into an exclusive dining and event space every evening after 5 PM, even on weekends! We offer a laid back or inviting atmosphere for gatherings of 40 to 100 guests. Whether you're planning a wedding rehearsal, milestone birthday, elegant shower, or corporate event, we provide a seamless, elevated experience tailored to your vision.
Choose from intimate seated dinners or lively strolling receptions, all enhanced by a full selection of beer, wine, and cocktails.

Yes! We’re proud to introduce our sister restaurant, Ronin Sushi, located at 326 W. 4th Street in Royal Oak, Michigan, right next to the Royal Oak Music Theatre.
At Ronin Sushi, we blend traditional Japanese flavors with modern culinary techniques to create an unforgettable dining experience. Our menu features an extensive selection of sashimi, nigiri, and innovative sushi rolls, all crafted with the freshest ingredients. Beyond sushi, we offer a variety of mouthwatering appetizers and entrées, such as spicy shrimp tempura, Kobe sliders, and tuna tartare.
The ambiance at Ronin is both stylish and inviting—perfect for a night out. Guests can relax in our intimate lounge area, which features open-air windows during warmer months, while enjoying a curated selection of craft cocktails like the jalapeño margarita, cold brew martini, and Ronin mojito, along with an extensive list of beer, wine, and sake.
Join us for Happy Hour, Monday through Thursday from 5 PM to 7 PM, and 4 PM to 6 PM Friday through Sunday, where you can enjoy specials like shrimp tempura skewers, crispy rice crab rangoon, and happy hour drink specials.
